This week marks Suicide Prevention Week, a crucial reminder that mental health support saves lives. For many veterans and members of the Armed Forces community, the transition to civilian life, service-related trauma, and personal struggles can contribute to feelings of isolation, depression, and even suicidal thoughts.
But you are not alone. Across the UK, organisations are working tirelessly to ensure no veteran faces these challenges without support. At Troopr, our mission is to make it easier for veterans and their families to connect with the right help. Through our searchable platform, you can find trusted charities, support groups, and services designed specifically for the Armed Forces community.
Here are just some of the incredible organisations making a difference:
Suicide Prevention Group – Supporting Women Veterans (North East)
A confidential support group tailored for women veterans who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts or have attempted suicide. The group also extends its services to families and carers, recognising the importance of a strong support network. Their safe, non-judgmental environment empowers women veterans to share openly and seek help when they need it most.
Saving Lives Programme
A structured three-stage programme: Survive, Prevent, Sustain.
- Survive: Immediate crisis intervention, counselling, and support groups.
- Prevent: Long-term support to reduce the risk of relapse, including counselling, peer support, and access to housing, employment, or training.
- Sustain: Ongoing low-level support to help individuals rebuild and maintain wellbeing.
Delivered by suicide prevention specialists, this service offers hope and practical help for those at risk.
The Light Dragoons Regimental Charity
Supporting members and veterans of The Light Dragoons and their families, this charity provides welfare grants to those facing hardship or distress. From rehabilitation services for those injured on operations, to bereavement support for families, they ensure the regimental community is never left behind.
Veterans United Against Suicide
An online peer-support community for U.K. and U.S. veterans. Through a Facebook group, veterans can connect, share, and stand together in the fight against suicide. Their Beacon Service helps reconnect veterans who may have lost touch with their communities, ensuring no one is left to struggle in silence.
