About Stoke-on-Trent City Council

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is the unitary authority governing the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire.

The Council is responsible for providing local government services to over 260,000 residents across six towns, including approximately 5,700 residents who reported that they had previously served in the UK Armed Forces (regular, reserve or both). This represents around 2.8% of the city's resident population aged 16 and over.

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Community

Stoke on Trent City Council recognises the contributions that members of the armed forces community make to our nation, and to our organisation.

We signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012 and our support as an employer for the Armed Forces has been recognised with a Ministry of Defence employer recognition scheme Gold award, which we’ve held since 2023.

Working for the Council

The Council pride itself on being a forces friendly employer. We have a comprehensive Armed Forces Policy in place for our staff, which includes supporting military reservists with an additional 10 days of paid leave and a further 5 days of unpaid leave in any one year to attend training camps. We also encourage staff members to become Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
