Description
FAB is seeking volunteers from all military ranks, backgrounds, and experiences, including Defence civilians and ex-Service personnel. Volunteers play a crucial role in providing support, mentorship, and a listening ear to bereaved families during FAB camps. No prior experience is necessary, as training and support are provided. All volunteers must attend training before each camp, and new volunteers go through a four-stage application process, including registration, application, interview, and training. Returning volunteers follow a three-stage process. A valid Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check and online Safeguarding training are required for all applicants. While volunteers must cover their travel costs, FAB provides food and accommodation during the camps. To apply as a volunteer, interested individuals can register their interest on the FAB website. For more information, they can contact FAB through the provided contact details.
About FAB Families' Activity Breaks
Families' Activity Breaks (FAB) provide fun and challenging activity camps around the UK for bereaved military families.
FAB is a non-public funded, tri-service charity (registered charity no.1178108, SC054207), providing a welcome break to meet and socialise with others who have experienced a similar loss
If your child is 19 years old or younger on the first day of camp, and has suffered the loss of a serving loved one in the Armed Forces, then you may be eligible for a FAB camp. FAB aims to be inclusive rather than exclusive. If your circumstance does not quite fit this criteria, please do get in touch as the committee will consider these on a case-by-case basis.
The backbone of FAB is the volunteer network. To be a volunteer you must be serving in the Armed Forces, a Veteran or Defence Civilian. All volunteers are trained in bereavement support for all the family. Volunteers are there to lend a helping hand throughout the FAB camp.
We also have Ambassadors, who are families who have attended camps, and are willing to talk to you about what you can expect on a FAB camp
