Description

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Join our Revenue and Customer Support Team and become a key part in helping Leicester City Council fulfil their statutory requirements of maintaining accurate Council Tax and Business Rates records.

Working in a small team of property inspectors you'll manage a caseload of a large portion of the city and carry out inspections of both domestic and business properties to assess entitlement to various discounts, exemption and reliefs. You'll carry out some desktop investigations with other departments but will predominantly be required to visit sites to take photographs and produce a report of your findings, ensuring the right outcome based on your investigations, including any potential cases of fraud.

This is a permanent full time role working Monday to Friday 37 hours per week. Whilst based at City Hall, you'll be expected to travel to different sites, across the city, on a frequent basis, therefore you must also hold a valid driving licence.

What you'll be doing

Using your knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates, you'll visit properties throughout the city and recommend action on a wide range of queries and offer advice to the public. You'll Investigate cases and liaise with a variety of council staff across various departments on a regular basis to advise on cases affecting them. You'll also liaise with a variety of additional stakeholders such as property developers, landlords, residents and agents, so the ability to maintain a professional approach is important, as is the ability to remain calm under pressure.

What you'll need

You'll need to be a proactive, self-motivated individual with a positive, can do attitude and experience of working in Council Tax, Business Rates or a similar field would be an advantage, however, full legislation training will be given and the ability to learn, understand and apply complex legislation to a variety of scenarios is key. After your initial training period, you will manage your own caseload; good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and proficient IT skills are all crucial.

This role involves a significant amount of time lone working in the field, therefore experience of working in a similar role and an awareness of carrying out dynamic risk assessments would be advantageous.

You must also hold a valid driving license, and are able to travel to different sites, across the city, on a frequent basis.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains.
