Driving home for Christmas: Extra travel support for Armed Forces personnel
16 Dec 2025
For many in the Armed Forces community, getting home for Christmas isn’t always easy. This year, though, some extra support is helping more people make that journey back to the people who matter most.

The government has announced funded return travel for around 30,000 junior service personnel, particularly those early in their careers who are often posted far from home. A further 5,000 separated parents will also receive travel credit, helping them spend precious time with their children over the festive period.
Altogether, this means around 35,000 service personnel who wouldn’t normally qualify for travel support will be able to get help this Christmas. Support can be used for road or rail travel, either over the festive break or in the months ahead for those who are on duty.
Whether you’re packing the car, hopping on a train, or counting down the days until you can travel, we know how much that journey home means.
From all of us at Troopr, have a safe journey home. Wherever you are this Christmas, we hope you get to spend time with the people who matter.
