Why the Troopr Team Wears the Poppy with Pride: Stories of Service, Sacrifice and Remembrance

Each November, a small red flower blooms across the nation, pinned to jackets, worn on uniforms, and displayed in workplaces, schools, and communities. The poppy is more than a symbol; it’s a promise. A promise to remember those who gave their lives in service, and to honour the resilience of those who still bear the scars of conflict, visible and unseen.

At Troopr, the meaning of the poppy runs deep. Our team’s connection to the Armed Forces is personal, rooted in lived experience, family history, and a shared respect for those who serve. Each of us wears the poppy with pride.

The Symbolism and Meaning of the Poppy

The poppy became a symbol of remembrance after the First World War, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. Its red petals symbolise the blood shed in battle, the black centre signifies mourning and loss, and the green leaf represents hope for the future, a reminder that from devastation can grow renewal and peace.

For Troopr, that message resonates with our mission: helping every veteran and family member find the right support, so no one is left behind.

The Meaning of the Poppy for Veterans and Military Families: The Troopr Team Reflects

Hatty – Military Child & Troopr Founder

“I grew up as a military child, learning resilience early on. The poppy connects me to my dad’s service and to the wider Forces community that shaped who I am. It’s a symbol of gratitude and belonging, a way to say, ‘we remember every story.”

Andrew – Retired Brigadier & Troopr ChairmanDirector of Business Development

“Having led soldiers in some of the most challenging environments, I wear the poppy for those I served alongside, men and women of courage, loyalty and compassion. It’s a moment each year to pause, reflect, and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in pursuitthe cost of peace.”

Ella – Military Spouse & Troopr Marketing Manager

“For me, the poppy represents the quiet strength of military families, the ones waiting at home, keeping things going, often unseen but always steadfast. Wearing it reminds me of the sacrifices made not just by those in uniform, but by those who love and support them.”

Faye – Former Military Spouse & Content Manager

“My great-grandfather, Steven Greenwell, fought in the First World War. He was shot twice but he survived. He rarely spoke about what he saw, but his courage and silence said everything. I wear the poppy for him, and for every generation that’s carried the weight of war with quiet bravery.”

More Than a Symbol

The poppy isn’t just about the past, it’s about the present and future. It reminds us to support those who continue to live with the legacy of service, and to create a world where remembrance inspires real action.

At Troopr, remembrance isn’t just about looking back, it’s about standing together today. We honour that legacy by helping veterans and their families find connection, purpose and belonging, because remembrance means making sure no one is forgotten.

Whether you’re a veteran, a family member, or simply someone who believes in supporting those who’ve served, join us in keeping the spirit of service alive.
