Armed Forces Day: What It Is, Why It Matters, and Who’s Really Showing Up
25 Jun 2025
Every year, Armed Forces Day offers the UK a moment to pause and recognise the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to veterans, reservists, and their families. It’s more than a parade or a flag-raising ceremony. It’s a chance to show appreciation for their service, sacrifice, and ongoing contribution to national life.
But as awareness grows, so does the importance of moving from symbolic support to meaningful action.
What is Armed Forces Day?
Armed Forces Day is all about honouring the service of our military personnel, both those currently serving and our veterans .And the UK doesn’t hold back! From Pipes in the Park and town-centre parades to family-friendly picnics and flypasts, there’s something for everyone. This year’s main event in Cleethorpes is set to be a showstopper, with a military parade, a jaw-dropping Red Arrows display, and a full-blown concert to cap it off. Beyond the fun and fanfare, though, Armed Forces Day is also a key moment for organisations to step up and show real support for the Armed Forces community, not just in words, but in action.
Why does it matter?
Support for the Armed Forces shouldn’t begin and end with a post on social media. For businesses and organisations, showing up on Armed Forces Day means more than awareness; it’s about action. That includes inclusive hiring practices for veterans and reservists, flexibility for employees serving in the Reserves, and fostering cultures that actively value military experience.
How can organisations show their support?
There are plenty of meaningful ways organisations can back their pledge. Hosting or sponsoring an Armed Forces Day event, whether it’s a community open day or an internal event, shows visible support. Celebrating your own people by spotlighting employees with military connections and sharing their stories helps bring the cause to life. Reviewing internal policies to ensure they’re veteran- and reservist-friendly signals long-term commitment beyond a single day. And finally, donating to or partnering with military charities ensures direct support reaches those who need it most.
943 organisations have pledged support – but who’s following through?
943 organisations have pledged to support Armed Forces Day, that’s no small number. But pledging support and actively participating are two very different things. This year, Troopr has introduced a new Armed Forces Day filter, a quick, transparent way for the community to see which organisations are truly walking the talk. Are they showing up? Are they participating in events, highlighting internal initiatives, or spotlighting the veterans and reservists in their workforce? Search the filtered list here!
