Property - Legal Officer
Description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Fixed term 12 month contract (to cover maternity leave)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our well regarded, friendly and supportive legal team. We are looking to recruit a legal officer to work alongside our team of highly experienced specialist property and highways lawyers. The Property Team is integral to the proper functioning of many services within the Council, providing support and expert advice. Surrounded by expertise you'll work in a supportive environment which offers the opportunity for self-development. In exchange for your commitment, you'll be encouraged to learn and develop your skills, enabling you to take your career to the next level.
You'll manage a varied and interesting caseload, undertaking a range of legal work. You will be responsible for managing your own caseload of house and flat acquisitions and drafting and reviewing deeds, standard legal agreements such as highways agreements and commercial leases. You'll undertake all aspects of house purchases, including full due diligence exercises, complete leases, and highways transactions. Daily, you'll liaise with clients, external solicitors, the Principal Lawyer, and Fee Earners in relation to cases and to discuss low level legal matters. In addition, you will help to oversee and assist paralegal and administrative support within the team.
You'll have strong organisational skills and a pro-active approach to work pressures, which will ensure that you are able to successfully prioritise work. Your excellent communication skills, both written and oral, will ensure that you are able to represent the service in a professional manner when liaising with clients and other external agencies. With strong research and analytical skills, you will be proficient in the use of IT and case management systems to excel in this role.
We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This includes hybrid working, a flexi-time scheme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and a generous holiday entitlement. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator. You will be supported at a senior level and by your peers and we will give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities.
We are committed to recruiting a diverse and highly talented workforce as we continue to build a council that is fitting and representative of our great city. That's why we have designed our recruitment process to put you at your ease, make you feel welcome and bring the best out of you. We will do all we can to make our recruitment process as fair as possible. To help you with your application, take a look at the 'our approach to recruitment' page.
