Trade Operative- Carpenter
Description
Full Time | 37 Hours per Week | Permanent
Come and join Leicester City Council, where people matter and job satisfaction is guaranteed.
As a Carpenter with Leicester City Council, you will enjoy a rewarding role that offers stability, flexibility, and an excellent work-life balance. You will start your working day from home, travelling directly to your first job for an 8am start. You'll be provided with a fully equipped work vehicle, stocked with the tools, building materials, and electrical plant required to carry out your work efficiently.
Using a work mobile phone, your daily jobs will be allocated by our Works Planning team. You'll spend your day travelling across the city, carrying out a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks within council properties. Your working day typically finishes at 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 3.30pm on Fridays, giving you more time to spend with family, friends, or to relax. As all work is within city boundaries, travel time is kept to a minimum. Overtime may occasionally be required during evenings or weekends, with plenty of notice provided. You will participate in our Out of Hours Emergency Service, providing emergency repairs to our tenants across the city.
About the role
You'll be responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry and joinery work, including:
- General carpentry and joinery repairs and maintenance
- Installation, repair, and maintenance of UPVC windows and doors
- Diagnosing and resolving faults efficiently and safely
- Working independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer care
Although this is a lone-working role, you will be fully supported by a friendly and experienced team, with technical guidance available from your Team Leader for more complex work.
What we offer
- A fully equipped work vehicle
- All workwear and PPE provided, including steel toe-capped boots and waterproofs
- Replacement clothing and footwear if damaged during work
- Guaranteed, secure employment with consistent pay
Benefits
- 5 weeks' paid annual leave, rising to 6 weeks after 5 years' service
- 8 bank holidays per year
- Staff discounts, including shopping and gym memberships
- Opportunity for compressed hours, allowing a regular day off (by agreement)
- Flexible working to support childcare or other caring responsibilities
Training and development
We are committed to investing in our employees. Mandatory qualifications and refresher training are fully funded, with paid time off to attend. Internal vacancies are advertised first, giving you the opportunity to progress your career within the Council.
What we are looking for
- Proven carpentry and joinery experience
- Experience in UPVC window and door installation and repairs
- Ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
- A full, valid driving licence
Most importantly, you'll benefit from guaranteed work, job security, and the opportunity to put your carpentry and joinery skills into practice every day.
Join us and build a career where your skills are valued.
