Would you like to play a key role in transforming the council's approach to improving and growing the delivery of climbing within the city?
Leicester City Council Sports Services are the leading provider of sport and fitness facilities within the city's nine sport, leisure, climbing and golf facility, along with a range of parks and open spaces for formal and informal health and wellbeing activities.
At our climbing facility we offer's both roped climbing and bouldering. This is a great opportunity for someone who is knowledgeable in the climbing industry and wishes to gain (or already has) their climbing wall instructor qualification, to join a team of highly motivated and passionate individuals to help increase participation in climbing. Providing high quality instruction in climbing, we aim to offer everyone the opportunity to participate.
Based at Leicester Leys Leisure Centre climbing facility, you'll work with the team to run the day-to-day operation of the climbing wall and help the team develop the instructional classes the climbing facility offers.
The positions include evening and weekend working. The vacancies we have are as follows: Leicester Leys Leisure Centre
12.5 hours per week - working as a Climbing Wall Assistant Thursdays and Fridays
6 hours Wednesday 3.15-9.30pm
What you'll be doing
On a typical shift, you'll start work as an Assistant, welcoming customers into the facility, delivering tours, carrying competency tests and inductions for new members. You'll respond to email enquiries and take bookings for the climbing sessions we offer. You'll ensure all climbing members adhere to our terms and conditions of use. You'll be responsible for keeping the climbing facility clean and tidy, carrying out health and safety checks of the wall and equipment. You may assist in route setting as and when required. When qualified you'll be responsible for teaching all climbing courses and coached sessions.
As an Assistant you'll have the opportunity of becoming a qualified Climbing Instructor.
What you'll need:
As a self-motivated individual, with the ability to use own initiative and take direction from others, you'll be approachable, a team player who can actively climb and prove your grade. You'll have experience of working in a customer service environment, ideally, in a climbing or leisure environment. You'll be confident when answering telephone calls and taking payments both over the phone as well as face to face on site. Using good IT skills, you'll be able to use a computer and input data on our entry management system.
In addition, for the Instructor role, you'll have one of the relevant climbing qualifications such as Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI), Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI). It would be desirable if you held a Climbing Wall Development Instructor (CWDI) and any of the BMC coaching awards. You must also hold a first aid qualification relevant to your climbing qualification.
