CIPC Specialist

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
As Community Infection Prevention Control Specialist (CIPC) you will provide expert IPC support and guidance to care homes and other social care settings in Leicester City. Working with our Senior CIPC specialist, you will be responsible for providing a biennial audit of all 98 homes, identifying key issues and common themes, supporting homes to improve their IPC function where appropriate and escalating where there are serious concerns or no improvement. You will be responsible for developing and implementing training as necessary and will work closely with adult social care colleagues. A large part of the role will be spent working directly with care homes, assessing, advising, supporting and training staff. Your clinical expertise will ensure you are a key member of IPC clinical networks locally and regionally.
Infectious diseases can have a devastating impact on our care home population. You will play an instrumental role in responding to outbreaks in our care homes, working with the home, adult social care and the UKHSA to reduce the impact of the outbreak and reduce onward transmission as much as possible. You will provide ongoing support to care home staff throughout the outbreak providing support and guidance and ensuring all IPC measures are followed. The senior CIPC specialist is developing a range of projects of special interest and you will be expected to be involved and support these projects as part of your IPC work.
You will be one of two CIPC specialists in the council and, with the senior CIPC specialist, will provide expert advice and guidance to a variety of stakeholders and colleagues across all departments in the council.
What you'll need
As a registered nurse with extensive IPC experience, you'll have experience of working with social care especially in supporting/training social care colleagues in infection prevention control. You'll have specialist knowledge across the range of IPC as well as an understanding of clinic audit and service improvement. With an empathetic nature, you'll have the ability to challenge, negotiate and influence change with partners. Using excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be confident in presenting information and training to a variety of audiences.
How you will work
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Although based at City Hall you'll travel across and throughout the city working in different social care settings.
