Brief Description
To provide technical engineering input, support and advice across the structures engineering discipline to support the three Route teams and carry out regional activities. The structures assets portfolio includes, but is not limited to, bridges, retaining wall, tunnels, and culverts.
As an Engineer within the NW&C regional structures team you will play a key role providing assurance as to whether civil engineering structures assets are compliant with company standards. The structures discipline is responsible for the inspection, assessment, maintenance, renewal and general management of circa 8,000 bridges, >250 tunnels, 4,500 walls, 4,000 culverts and 72 coastal/river defences as well as the inspection of circa 45,000 equipment support structures. Ensuring all this work is done to standards, policies, remits and in a timely manner is a constant challenge.
Day to day you will work with other teams and suppliers as well as liaising with other routes and regions and the central Technical Authority. You will be expected to able to produce analysis and reports as well as leading on incident investigation and resulting assurance plans. Strong communication and team working skills are therefore essential. In addition you will be expected to have technical knowledge in structural behaviour and provide engineering guidance to the junior members of the team.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
1. Act as focal point for best practice and technical advice in own specialist area.
2. Provide support for incident and technical investigation and analysis.
3. Provide support for capability and performance assessment of options and designs.
4. Support the delivery of activities required by Network Rail policy and standards, incorporating legislation and international standards as appropriate.
5. Support the development of and work to agreed operational processes.
6. Provide support for strategy, product and asset development.
7. Identify and prioritise actions to address defects and deliver corrective actions.
8. Schedule and undertake analysis and risk assessments and develop mitigating actions.
9. Monitor and evaluate technical and related asset data.
10. Undertake information management and record-keeping.
11. Undertake and support Engineering Verification activities.
12. Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be :
• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience (Level 4 / 5)
• Substantial experience in a relevant engineering area
• Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
• An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be :
• Degree in a relevant subject (Level 6)
• Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
• Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques
• Railway industry experience
