Internal Redeployment Only - Project Officer (Engagement and Training)
We are seeking a new Project Officer for Engagement and Training who will support the development and delivery of the National Student Mental Health Data workstream, including engagement and training for organisations joining the new collection process. The role holder will require knowledge of mental health terminology.
The role supports the design and delivery of the National Student Mental Health Partnerships Programme (NSMHPP) objectives, in particular communication and engagement planning and implementation.
The NSMHPP is funded by Medr, The Welsh Government Commission for Tertiary Education and Research. The programme is focused on improving data about mental health within Further and Higher Education institutes and removing barriers for students to access timely support for mental health concerns. This includes facilitating collaboration and partnership working between the sectors, and development of new pathways and shared service models. The funding is secured until July 2026, extension of the role may be possible if further funding is secured.
This role is based in Cardiff University, working with colleagues from Health Boards, universities and further education colleges to design and deliver the programme objectives. It is anticipated national travel will be required as part of the role, along with hybrid and local office based working.
This post is hybrid working based in the Centre for Student Life, Park Place, and remote working. There will be a requirement to visit partner sites in Wales but notice would be provided.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31st July 2026.
Salary: £33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade 5)

Job Description
Key Duties
- Provide professional advice and guidance on the mental health data collection processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
- Investigate and analysis specific issues within the programme objectives supporting understanding and access for students with mental health concerns, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within the programme remit.
- Ensure that the provision of the training and engagement delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
- Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures.
- Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
- Create specific working groups from colleagues across the programme partners to achieve the programme objectives.
- Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives.
- Develop and deliver training to support the programme development and delivery.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the programme.
- Instruct and guide other employees across the programme as required.
- Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.
- Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity.
- Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
Additional Information
It is assumed this post will be based in Cardiff University, but regular visits to other partners are anticipated. The role may combine home working and visits to partner sites across Wales, therefore regular travel may be required.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education
- Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience (ideally in Psychology or Mental Health subjects)
- Substantial experience of working within a training, project or engagement role
- Able to demonstrate professional knowledge of training, engagement or project management discipline to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers
- Ability to set up and maintain new processes, systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate
- Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people
- Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered
- Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity, identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes
- Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within mental health, training, project management or engagement
- Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
- A willingness to undertake further training and development
- Postgraduate/Professional qualification,
- APM, PRINCE2 or APMG Change management qualified
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Experience of working in a Higher or Further Education or NHS environment
- Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
