Brief Description

The role shall provide sustainability (environmental and social) expertise and support to our Capital Delivery (CD) functions to ensure legislative compliance, and maintain adherence with regulatory and strategic objectives. Our CD functions deliver a huge diversity of projects, from minor renewals, such as track and signalling equipment replacement; heavy civil engineering, such as replacement of or construction of new structures; to major projects, such as the construction of new railway stations. You may get involved in site-based assurance activities, documentation assurance, sustainability data analysis, and supporting sustainability procurement activities, to name but a few tasks. The role presents a genuine opportunity to embed sustainability initiatives, outcomes and culture on some of the UK's largest and most exciting infrastructure projects.

You will join and be supported by a wider Health, Safety, Sustainability and Construction Management team.

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

1.Provide expert support and guidance on all environmental matters to delivery legislative compliance.

2.Update and maintain environmental records and documentation to support the environment management system and emergency plans

3.Provide the focus for liaison arrangements with environmental stakeholders.

4.Produce and undertake a programme of surveillance and inspection checks.

5.Monitor closeout of environmental non conformances.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be :

• Good understanding of UK and European environmental legislation and regulation

• Good understanding of environmental management system

• Knowledge of maintenance delivery process and techniques

• Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills

We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be :

• Knowledge of operational railway environment

• Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard

• Membership of professional body

As this is a role in a regional team, regular travel across NW&C is required. Candidates should be comfortable with frequent travel to client sites, regional offices, or other business locations as needed.

Drugs and Alcohol Standard:

Our Drugs and Alcohol Standard has changed. If successful at interview you will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test.
