Would you like to play a key role in keeping Leicester safe, welcoming, and thriving. As an Apprentice Community Safety Support Officer, you'll shadow and support experienced colleagues to develop the skills needed to tackle anti-social behaviour, engage with local communities, and contribute to making Leicester City a safer and more enjoyable place to live, visit, and work.
You'll join the Safer Communities Service and work within a dedicated team, working in partnership with other council services, the police, local businesses, schools, and community groups. The team's goal is to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, build positive relationships across the city, and support Leicester's wider Community Safety Partnership duties. With several projects underway ranging from tackling street-level issues to raising public awareness of community safety, you'll be part of a dynamic, problem-solving environment where your input truly matters.
You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at Mansfield House Police Station or working remotely from home to suit your needs. However, you'll be expected to travel around the city, engaging directly with the public, partner organisations, and other enforcement services. This is a full time, fixed term position working 37 hours a week. You will typically work Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work to meet service and community needs. Funding for this role to be made permanent has been secured however, this will be subject to your successful completion of the 2 year Anti-social Behaviour & Community Safety Support Apprenticeship training course (Level 4)
What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for promoting safety, compliance, and awareness amongst residents, businesses, schools, and community groups. In addition, you'll assist in preparing clear, accurate, and robust evidence for investigations and reports.
As a Community Safety Apprentice you'll build strong working relationships with colleagues, City Wardens, Parking Attendants, and other enforcement services. In addition, your work will support wider council duties, working alongside homelessness prevention, crime reduction, and serious violence initiatives.
Within this role, you'll identify and escalate issues quickly, working with multiple agencies to resolve them. Playing a key role to maintain Leicester's reputation as a safe, welcoming, and thriving city. Treating the public with fairness, respect, and care whilst promoting equality, diversity, and accessibility.
You'll be expected to attend team and partnership meetings, contribute to planning discussions, and support communications that raise public awareness of community safety priorities.
What you'll need
The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual who is passionate about improving the safety, wellbeing, and equality of life for residents and visitors of Leicester City. You'll be able to confidently engage with a wide range of people, from community groups to partner agencies. As someone who is organised and reliable, you'll find ease in keeping accurate records, preparing clear reports, and following instructions and procedures. You'll need to be observant and quick to spot issues, risks, or conflicts and confident in escalating them appropriately. As you can imagine, this role can occasionally be challenging so you must be a resilient, adaptable person who can remain professional, calm, and fair in challenging.
