Legal Director
Location: Hybrid working pattern. Office preference would be Bristol or Leatherhead.

The Legal Director plays a key leadership role in developing and implementing the legal strategy for the business and overseeing the delivery of legal services. They have responsibility for the Legal function, ensuring the continued development of people and processes, championing dynamic change to ensure we attract the brightest and best and create an environment where everyone can flourish.
As a member of the Senior Leadership team, Legal Director will be a strategic advisor and business partner and will lead the Legal team's delivery of business focused solutions, assessment of how risks can be managed and mitigated, review of commercial and government contracts, and advising on contracting structure and strategy. They will support the Senior Leadership Team and greater KBR Legal Team of Teams by communicating the overall vision and values of Frazer-Nash and KBR, our company policies and business objectives.
The Legal Director is responsible for:
- acting as a thought leader, proactively engaging with the Senior Leadership Team to support the development of the business strategy, managing complexity and ambiguity and leading the organisation through complex change initiatives.
- developing and delivering legal strategies and services, in alignment with the business strategy initiatives to achieve financial, operational and people objectives.
- serving as the escalation point for complex legal matters, and negotiating with customers and suppliers when needed
- advising the business and senior leadership on complex legal issues, claims and disputes
- leading legal M&A efforts including conducting due diligence and integration activities
- improving the delivery of high-volume legal services including implementing legal intake and contract review technology, and developing a framework for legal review and risk ownership
- operating as a strategic business-focused legal advisor to the senior management team, with solid business acumen, analytical skills and sound judgement to provide pragmatic legal advice and critical thinking, challenge point-of-views when necessary and offering alternative, constructive suggestions and innovative solutions to support growth.
- turning legal trends and complex data into meaningful reporting to enable executive decision-making.
- effectively engaging, communicating and influencing senior stakeholders across the Frazer-Nash SLT and the wider DTS and KBR business
- ensuring applicable regulatory requirements and legislations are understood and complied with across the business
- leadership of the Legal team of 5 attorneys and 1 administrative assistant to achieve results. Drives and manages performance, provides a clear sense of vision and direction, provides coaching and facilitates training to support development and plan for succession.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified solicitor with at least 12 years PQE either in private practice or in-house
- Extensive demonstrable experience in a consultancy / professional services environment and some or all of the following legal areas: commercial and government contracting, intellectual property, products liability, software development/Software as a Service (SaaS), energy, nuclear, international/cross-border legal matters, Mergers & Acquisitions, Government Framework Agreements, NEC contracts and MOD DEFCONs
- Experience leading an in-house legal team
- Experience using or implementing legal technology such as legal intake, contract lifecycle management systems, and AI contract review tools
Leadership Experience
- Demonstrable significant experience of leading high performing in-house Legal Teams
- Demonstrable significant experience of successful stakeholder management and collaboration
- Demonstrable authentic leadership skills
