Description

Network Engineer (176jc) – Hereford - £45-50k + Generous Benefits

If you’re a former member of the Armed Forces or about to transition from military service, this is a unique opportunity to put your discipline, structure, and technical skillset to work as a Network Engineer within a respected and forward-thinking organisation.

Whether you’ve worked in a Signals, or similar branch, you already possess the mindset, troubleshooting ability, and security awareness that make you a perfect fit for this role.

Your role as a Network Engineer, you'll be part of the IT Infrastructure team delivering secure, high-performance networks across the business. Your role will be a mix of strategic project work (70%) and hands-on support (30%), giving you the chance to lead improvements while solving real-world challenges.

You’ll get involved in:

·         Designing and deploying secure, resilient networks using Cisco, Palo Alto, and SD-WAN technologies.

·         Hands-on troubleshooting across LAN/WAN/WiFi and firewalls.

·         Acting as a critical 2nd/3rd line escalation point for network incidents.

·         Supporting everything from upgrades and migrations to full-scale implementations.

·         Creating clear documentation including HLDs/LLDs and pre-staging equipment for deployments.

What You Bring from Service

My client is looking for someone with:

·         A minimum CCNA certification (actively working toward CCNP is a plus).

·         Confidence in Cisco routing, switching, VLANs, OSPF, and BGP.

·         IPSec, VPN, and firewall troubleshooting experience (Palo Alto preferred).

·         An understanding of SD-WAN solutions (e.g. Meraki, Prisma).

·         A methodical, security-first mindset—familiar to anyone who’s operated in a MOD or Defence setting.

·         Clear communication, structured thinking, and an eagerness to keep learning.

Desirable (but not essential)

·         Experience with Python/Ansible or other network automation tools.

·         Familiarity with cloud networks (AWS) or ITIL environments.

·         Veterans with experience in secure comms or cyber ops are especially encouraged.

Please note this is a 100% on site role, with NO REMOTE working capability and you will also need to either hold or gain UK SC clearance due to the nature of the contracts.
